At 70, I’ve had a long and eventful relationship with my body, especially as it relates to aging, weight, and sexual function. While I haven’t yet dealt with the stereotypical “saggy balls” issue that people joke about, I have definitely noticed some changes in other areas — particularly with how firm my erections get and how my penis appears.
One thing I’ve learned through experience is that the actual size of the penis doesn’t really shrink with age. However, weight gain has a surprising effect. As we age, it’s common to gain weight around the lower abdomen and pubic area, and when that fat accumulates, it can essentially “swallow” the base of the penis, making it appear shorter. The penis itself hasn’t changed, but the visible length above the fat pad gets reduced. This was something I experienced firsthand.
At one point, I had gained nearly 60 pounds and noticed a striking change: I had lost about two inches in visible length. That was enough to get my attention. Even though I started with a respectable seven inches, I definitely preferred seeing the full length. It’s a matter of confidence, comfort, and yes, a bit of pride.
So I made the decision to lose the weight — and it worked. After shedding the 60 pounds, I regained the full two inches. It was a clear, direct relationship. But life happens, and over time I ended up putting back on about 30 pounds. That cost me an inch, and once again I noticed the difference.
Interestingly, my husband actually preferred me when I was heavier. While I normally had an inch on him, my weight gain evened the playing field — and in some positions, he appeared longer. We joked about it, but for me, it’s not just about appearance or comparison. It’s about how I feel in my body and how I connect with my partner. I feel better, more confident, and more sexual when I’m at my healthier weight.
So I’ve decided it’s time to drop those 30 pounds again. Not just for health, but for that inch — because for me, it’s worth it.
